CPV calculator

Cost per video view, both ways round. Enter what you know and the missing number appears as you type.

What do you want to work out?
Cost per view — CPV = budget ÷ video views
The formula

CPV = budget ÷ video views

CPV is what one view of your video costs. The catch is that every platform counts a view differently, anywhere from two seconds to the whole thing, so a CPV from one platform is rarely comparable with another. Always check what counted as a view before comparing.

Worked example

You spend 6,000 and the campaign delivers 2,000,000 views.

6,000 ÷ 2,000,000 = 0.003

Your CPV is 0.003.

Estimated video view rates

What a video view actually costs

These are the estimates Planit starts a consideration plan from, drawn from Gulf market buying through 2026 and quoted before any negotiation. Read them carefully: unlike a CPM, these numbers are not strictly comparable with each other, for the reason below.

A view is not one thing. Each platform decides what counts, and the thresholds range from a couple of seconds to the whole video. So the cheapest row here is not automatically the best buy: a very low cost per view usually means the platform counts a view generously, and a higher one often means somebody genuinely watched. Before comparing two CPVs, check what each platform charged you for. Comparing them without that is comparing a glance with a viewing.

One line of a media plan.

A real plan needs every channel, every placement and the totals underneath. Planit turns your rates into a client-ready plan, then exports a PDF to send and a spreadsheet that recalculates when you change a number.

Questions

What counts as a video view?
That is set by the platform, not by you. Some count two seconds, some six, some require the video to be watched in full. Two campaigns with the same CPV can be buying very different things.
Should I buy on CPV or CPM?
Buy on CPV when the view itself is the point, such as telling a story. Buy on CPM when what matters is how many people saw the brand at all.
Why is my CPV so small?
Because it is the cost of a single view, not a thousand. Numbers like 0.01 are perfectly normal, which is why this calculator keeps several decimal places.
Why can a non-skippable view cost less than a skippable one?
Because the two are counted differently. A non-skippable format bills closer to a guaranteed impression, while a skippable one only charges when someone chooses to keep watching. The cheaper number is not the better buy; it is a different unit.
